Lower the Boom

Lower the Boom is an acoustic ecology organization focused on identifying issues with extremely loud stereo systems in vehicles, and finding ways to address them in the community. While part of me likes the cars that go boom, part of me also sees how disruptive they can be.

Formed in 1987 by composers Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe, Bang on a Can is dedicated to commissioning, performing, creating, presenting and recording contemporary music. With an ear for the new, the unknown and the unconventional, Bang on a Can strives to expose exciting and innovative music as broadly and accessibly as possible to new audiences worldwide. And through its Summer Festival, Bang on a Can hopes to bring this energy and passion for innovation to a younger generation of composers and players.

New West Electronic Arts & Music Organization

Founded in 1998, NWEAMO is an all volunteer, non-profit 501-c-3 organization dedicated to the promotion of music and inter-related arts that involve the creative use of computers and electronics, and to building a diverse community among electro-acoustic composers amd media artists throughout the world. We embrace all styles of electronic music, from works which involve turntables and “bent” electronics to those utilizing cutting-edge composition and synthesis programs such as Max/MSP, Super Collider, and Csound; Rock and Pop music; Ritual Dance Music, Music Concrete and Sound Collage; Performance Art and Multimedia Events; Ambient Music and Sound Installations; and Improvised and Process Music.

The American Gamelan Institute

Gamelan music of all kinds, in Indonesia and around the world, is supported and documented by the American Gamelan Institute, an organization devoted to publishing, recording, distributing, and making available information on all aspects of Indonesian performing arts and their international counterparts. AGI was founded in 1981 to support all those involved in the many traditions of gamelan, and to gather and share information in many forms.

American Music Center

The American Music Center is a national service organization and information center dedicated to building a national community for new American Music. AMC advocates for the community through NewMusicBox, its award-winning web magazine, and Counterstream Radio, a 24-hour online station broadcasting music by a broad range of U.S. composers. AMC supports the community by administering $1.5 million in grants to individuals and organizations each year, and by offering professional development tools for artists. AMC connects the community with an array of information services designed to facilitate performances, including a vast, searchable online database of more than 40,000 works by American composers; publications and directories compiling opportunities in new music and other information useful to industry professionals; and benefits and services for nearly 2,500 members in all fifty states and around the world.
